REO Town Depot
"Constructed in 1902, this castle-like building with its square tower was the Lansing station for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad until 1971. For decades passengers streamed through its doors. Here servicemen left and returned from military duty. Children and adults alike associated this depot with the excitement of travel and vacations. This city's joys and sorrows were reflected in this rail station; greetings and good-byes were the most vital ingredients. But gradually rail travel ebbed. Renovated as a restaurant in 1972, the building's exterior remains unchanged. Gerald R. Ford from Michigan, the thirty-eighth president of the United States, dined here during a "whistle-stop" campaign tour on May 15, 1976." (source Michigan Historical Markers)

"BWL’s first natural gas-fired power plant and first cogeneration plant, the REO Town plant generates up to 300,000 pounds of steam per hour and 100 megawatts of electricity. The plant is among the most clean and efficient in the U.S. The $182 million project includes a new headquarters and restored Grand Trunk Western Railroad depot. When fully operational in the fall, 180 BWL employees will work in the facility." (source BWL)

Historical Society of Greater Lansing Auction 2013

BWL John Dye Water Plant. Historical Society of Greater Lansing 2013 Auction.

"The John Dye Water Conditioning Plant is located on South Cedar Street, east of downtown Lansing. Named for a former BWL chemist, the plant has the capacity to condition and distribute 40 million gallons of water per day. The Dye Plant’s architecture reflects the art deco style prevalent when it was built in 1939 as a project of the Works Project Administration (WPA). In the plant’s lobby large murals painted by artists Frank Cassara and Charles Pollock depict the beneficial and destructive forces of water." - source Lansing State Journal.
